The Evaluation of Macular Function in Tilted Optic Disc Syndrome with Multifocal Electroretinography and Microperimetry

3İstanbul Retina Enstitüsü, İstanbul, Doç. Dr. A 13 year-old girl presented with blurred vision in both eyes for about 5 years. Best corrected visual acuity was measured as 1/10 (right eye) and 2/10 (left eye) with normal anterior segment examination. Fundus examination did not provide any pathological findings other than tilted optic disc appearance and peripapillary atrophy in both eyes. Macular functions were evaluated with microperimetry and multifocal electroretinography (mfERG). Microperimetric examination of the patient indicated absolute and relative scotomas at 20° in both eyes. On mfERG, the “first order kernel” waveforms consisting of 61 segments at central 30 degrees were found subnormal at all rings in both eyes. This findings might be the proof of macular dysfunction accompanying optic disc anomaly in tilted disc syndrome. mfERG results corresponding to scotoma areas detected by microperimetry shown that the pathology in the macula might be partially responsible for such changes in the visual field.
