POSTOPERATIVE SUCCESS OF PSEUDOPHACIC RETINAL DETACHMENT WITH PROLIFERATIVE VITREORETINOPATHY
SSK Ankara Göz Hastanesi
37 consecutive pseudophakic eyes were operated by scleral buckling, pars plana vitrectomy, endolaser photocoagulation, silicone oil or perfluorocarbon gas tamponade and intraocular lens removal if necessary. 30 patients were male, three female and ages were between 30-71(mean 58). The follow-up time was 18-41 months. After over all follow-up time retinal reattachment were detected in 34 eyes. Three eyes had recurrent retinal detachment with grade D3 Proliferative vitreoretinopathy. Postoperative complications were silicone oil at anterior chamber in 18, cornea-silicone oil touch in 3, corneal decompensation in one, secondary glaucoma in 7, closed inferior peripheral iridectomy in 2, incomplete pupillary reactions in 6, IOL decentralisation in one, epiretinal membrane formation in four, optic atrophy in one and silicone oil at subconjunctival space in one of the eyes.
Due to capsular opacities and cortical remnants, the success rate of pseudophakic retinal detachments were lower and complications were higher when compared with aphakic or pseudophakic retinal detachments. Keywords : Pseudophakia, retinal detachment, silicone oil, pars plana vitrectomy, perfluorocarbon liquids.
