Studies among different ethnic groups have provided population-based prevalence data on ERM, ranging from 2.2% to 18.5%. Current classification of ERMs is mainly based on the biomicroscopical examination of the fundus, OCT and on the fluorescein angiography. Pars plana vitrectomy with ERM removal is a useful technique for those patients with symptomatic ERM, and the majority of patients will have a favorable visual outcome.
