EVALUATION OF THE RESULTS OF PRIMARY RETINAL DETACHMENT SURGERY PROSPECTIVELY
SSK Ankara Eğitim Hastanesi 2. Göz Kliniği
Purpose: To evaluate the results of primary retinal detachment surgery prospectively.Method: One hundred and eight consecutive patients undergoing surgery for primary retinal detachment over an eight month period were studied. Data records were completed after surgery and at final follow-up. The term primary success was used to describe persisting retinal detachment after a single operation.
Results: Eighty-four patients (77%) had persisting retinal detachment after a single procedure. Of the 24 patients who required further surgery, retina remained still detached in 6 patients at final follow-up. The final anatomical success rate was 94.4%.
Conclusion: New or missed breaks were the major causes of failure of primary surgery. No other preoperative factors appeared to predict failure to reattach the retina. Keywords : Primary retinal detachment, vitreoretinal surgery, recurrent retinal detachment, complications of retinal detachment, causes of failure at the retinal surgery.
