Retina-Vitreous
2000 , Vol 8 , Num 3
Methods: We evaluated 44 eyes of 44 patients having DTRD with indication for PPV. According to preoperative examination the directions of preretinal fibrovascular membranes, nature of macular and optic nerve head distortion the surgery teqnique was tailored, different techniques were used for membrane dissection and for relief of retino-macular traction.
Patient mean follow up period is about 26 months. (4-55).
Results: During operation 41% (18 patients) had complications like lensectomy, corneal edema and IOH. In early post operative period complications occured in about 36% (16 patients) like increased IOP and corneal epithelial problems. In late post opertive period coplications occurred in 66% (29 patients) like persistent IOH, cataract, rubeosis, retinal detachment and phythisis.
Conclusion: While doing surgery for DTRD there is high probability of getting complications during and after vitrectomy operations. In our study group these complications were very high in patients without any fundus photocoagulation treatment.
