Hence, detailed ophthalmological examination of the patient who is scheduled for cataract surgery is crucial preoperatively. However, performing elaborate examination of posterior segment in cases especially with dense cataract or corneal abnormalities may be diffi cult and time consuming. Nevertheless accurately estimation of postoperative visual prognosis is more likely in such cases according to careful retinal examinations including optical coherence tomography scans. Obvious sharing of such fi ndings with the patients and their relatives in preoperative visits, and discussing about amendment of the surgical plans as well as the change of intraocular lens type in required cases have important impacts over postoperative satisfaction of both patient and the physician.
