Drugs and electromagnetic radiation are two major causes of retinotoxicity. The pathogenesis and clinical features of retinopathy caused by a number of drugs are heterogenous. Retinotoxicity with different clinical features related to the wavelength of the emission are seen with exposure to electromagnetic radiation. In this review, retinotoxic pathogenesis and clinical features of drugs used commonly, or relatively commonly, in medical practice with known retinotoxic side-effects; and retinotoxic pathogenesis, clinical features and therapeutic interventions, if any, both in radiation and phototoxic retinopathy related to solar and ophtalmic instrumentation are described.
