Sympathetic Ophthalmia Vogt Koyanagi Harada Disease
İstanbul Üniv. Tıp Fak. Göz Hast AD.
Syampathetic ophthalmia is a bilateral granulomatous panuveitis that occurs 5 days to 62 years after penetrating trauma to one eye. The prognosis is grave despite intervention with corticosteroids, immunosupressive agents, and cyclosporine. Enucleation of an injured eye before the sympathising eye becomes involved is the only way to prevent the disease. Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome is a sistemic disorder involving many organ systems including the eye, ear, skin and meninges. Bilateral panuveitis is the main ocular finding. It is a constellation of clinical signs and symptoms. Medical management is the main therapeutic approach using the same agents as sympathetic ophthalmia.
