The Role of The Vitreous in The Development of Neovascularization in Central Retinal Vein Occlusion
1S.B. Ankara Hastanesi Göz Kliniği2S.B. Numune Hastanesi Göz Kliniği The condition of the posterior vitreous and its relationship to neovascularization were investigated, in 78 eyes with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVD). The incidence of posterior vitreous detachment (PVD) in CRVO differ significantly from that in control eyes. During a mean follow-up, 7 (41%) eyes without PVD, developed retinal or disc neovascularization or both in ischemic group. But only one (7%) eye with complete PVD developed neovascularization. While, this result was statistically significant, no significant relationship was found between iris neovascularization development and the vitreous condition. Our results suggest that, PVD may play a role in protecting eyes with CRVO from posterior segment neovascularilation.
