Ochrobactrum Anthropi Endophthalmitis Following Pars Plana Vitrectomy
1Beyoğlu Göz Eğitim ve Araştırma Hastanesi, İstanbul2İstanbul Üniversitesi Çapa Tıp Fakültesi Mikrobiyoloji AD., İstanbul Case Report: 53 years old male who had undergone uneventful pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) in order to evacuate vitreous hemorrhage in his left eye, presented with sudden visual loss, redness and pain three days following PPV. Endophthalmitis was diagnosed by clinical examination and ultrasonography and repeat PPV with intravitreal antibiotic and silicone oil injection was carried out. Ochrobactrum anthropi was cultured in vitreous specimen. Topical and oral fluoroquinolone antibiotics were added according to the results of antimicrobial susceptibility testing. System examination findings and blood biochemistry were normal. We think that this case is interesting because Ochrobactrum anthropi postoperative endophthalmitis has been rarely reported in healthy individuals.
