RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FUNDUS LESIONS AND HEMATOLOGIC PARAMETERS IN ACUTE LEUKEMIAS
1S.B. Ankara Numune Hastanesi Göz Kliniği2S.B. Ankara Numune Hastanesi Hematoloji Kliniği This study is planned in order to evaluate relationship between fundus lesions and hematologic parameters in acute leukemia. 21 of 74 acute leukemia patients had acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and 53 of them had acute nonlymphoblastic leukemia (ANLL). Hematologic parameters ( leucocyte count, hemoglobin, hematocrit value and thyrombocyte count) of patients with fundus lesions and without fundus lesions are compared. ALL patients with retinal hemorrhages had lower thyrombocyte, hemoglobin, hematocrit values than patients whom didn't have retinal hemorrhages. Patients with white centered hemorrhages had lower hemoglobin, hematocrit values. But hematologic parameters were not different in patients with or without cotton-wool spots detected in fundus examination.
ANNL patients with retinal hemorrhages also had lower thyrombocyte, hemoglobin, hematocrit values. Patients with white centered hemorrhages in retina had different values from patients without white centered hemorrhages. Of hematologic parameters, only thyrombocyte count was found to be different in patients in whom cotton-wool spots were detected in fundus examination.
In leukemia patients hematologic parameters, especially thyrombocyte count, can be important from systemic and ocular approach. For this reason symptoms must be evaluated carefully, a detailed fundus examination must be done and treated if necessary. Keywords : Leukemia, acute, hematologic parameters, fundus lesions
