In this study, the relation of the rate of ocular involvement and therapeutic stage of ocular involvement in childhood leukemia with the prognosis of the disease has been investigated. Children were diagnosed as acute leukemia, treated and followed up; during this period opthalmologic examinations of children were made. The relation between the clinical and laboratory findings and opthalmic findings were evaluated intraretinal and subhyaloid hemorrhage, optic disc pallor, papilla edema, retinal pigment epithelial alterations and an increase in the vascular tortuosity have been determined in 24 (57.1%) out of 42 patients covered by this investigation. Of these patients, 10 (41.7%) with ocular involvement ant two (11.1%) without ocular involvement died during the follow-up period. Although no relationship was determined between ocular vascular alterations and hematologic disorders; a poor prognosis was observed in children with acute leukemia, suffering from ocular involvement.
