Ginkgo Biloba Results At Age-Related Macular Degeneration

Results of the investigations in developed countries predict age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is one of the leading cause of legal blindness in advanced age group. Too many drugs had been postulated to be of benefit in treatment of this disorder with poorly explain etiopathogenesis. Effectiveness of one of these drugs, namely Ginkgo Biloba extract was investigated in a randomized trial including 22 patients diagnosed as AMD at GATA medical Faculty-Department of Ophthalmology, Retina section. Vision acuity, color perception, FFA and vision field of the patient were followed with three months' period during the study; the results of the patient group were compared with those of the control group. No statistically significant difference had been established between the results of the patient and control group.
