Changes in Ocular Tonus Following Retinal Detachment Surgery
İ.Ü. Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fak. Göz Hastalıkları AD.
Intraocular pressure(IOP) changes following scleral buckling procedures due to retinal detachment surgery were studied by Schiotz indentation, Goldmann applanation and non-contact pneumotonometry methods separately. A series of twenty-six patients (17 males and 9 females whose refractive values were between +0.50 and -9.00 dioptry) undergoing scleral buckling surgery were included in the study. IOP s were measured with indentation, applanation and non-contact pneumotonometry methods before surgery and at 1st. week, 1st. month and 3rd. month following operation. All values obtained before and after surgery were analysed statistically. IOP s which were measured by all methods following scleral bucklying procedure were higher than preoperative values(p<0.05). Both of preoperative and postoperative 1st. week values which were obtained by all three methods showed no statistical difference (p>0.05). Postoperative 1st. and 3rd. months values which were measured by applanation and non-contact methods were higher than Schiotz tonometry (p<0.05). We consider that this difference is caused by both more effective pressure of the used sponge which has swollen with water and the changes in the scleral rigidity.
