Materials and Methods: Eight eyes of 8 patients that had been vitrectomized and filled with silicone oil due to complicated retinal detachment were found to be redetached in their followup examination. A segmental buckle was placed for the inferior quadrant recurrent retinal detachment and the subretinal fluid was drained through a sclerotomy.

Results: Patients were evaluated by biomicroscopic and fundoscopic examinations and intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements. In the postoperative follow-up period silicone oil was detected in the anterior chamber in two aphakic and one pseudophakic patient. Intraocular pressure was measured higher than 21mmHg in four patients and they were controlled with antiglaucomatous medication. All retina were attached totally during both the postoperative period and control examination after silicone oil extraction. Argon laser photocoagulation was applied to all eyes before silicone oil removal.

Conclusion: In previously vitrectomized and silicone oil filled eyes, perisilicone oil proliferation in the inferior quadrant is a frequently seen problem. Since proliferative vitreoretinopathy and contraction of the retina results with the inferior quadrant recurrent retinal detachment we suggest inferior segmental buckle and drainage of subretinal fluid as an alternative treatment in these cases.
