Conventional illumination systems became inefficient for changing and developing concepts in vitreoretinal surgery in the last years. Especially a more brilliant light source is needed for bimanual surgery and small incision vitrectomy. The xenon light source is a good alternative fort his purpose. Xenon light source demonstrated no difference of retinal toxicity comparing with halogen light source. In addition, considering its relatively distant location to the fovea, chandelier light provides a safe illumination to extend the exposure time.
