The Effects of Intravitreal Bevacizumab Combined with Photodynamic Therapy on Intraocular Pressure and Ocular Blood Flow in Patients with Choroidal Neovascularization

Dr. Purpose: To evaluate the effects of intravitreal bevacizumab combined with photodynamic therapy on intraocular pressure and ocular blood flow for choroidal neovascularization secondary to age-related macular degeneration.
Materials and Methods: This study included 46 eyes of 29 patients with choroidal neovascularization secondary to age-related macular degeneration who received intravitreal bevacizumab combined with photodynamic therapy. Photodynamic therapy was performed to all patients one week after intravitreal injection of bevacizumab in 1.25 mg/0.05 ml dose. Patients were evaluated in terms of intraocular pressure measurement and ocular blood flow before injection and one week, one month and three months after photodynamic therapy.
Results: The mean age of patients was 67±11 years, 13 (45%) of them were female and 16 (55%) of them were male. There was no statistically difference between pre and posttreatment values of intraocular pressure (p>0.05). No statistically difference was found between pre and posttreatment values of ocular blood flow (p>0.05).
Conclusion: Intravitreal bevacizumab combined with photodynamic therapy for choroidal neovascularization secondary to age-related macular degeneration did not result significantly difference in terms of intraocular pressure and ocular blood flow.
