SECONDARY GLAUCOMA AFTER VITREORETINAL SURGERY WITH INTRAVITREAL SILICONE OIL INJECTION
1Ankara Hastanesi 2. Göz Kliniği2SSK Ankara Hastanesi 2. Göz Kliniği To evaluate the prevalence of glaucoma after vitrectomy with intravitreal silicone oil injection, we have carried out a retrospective study on 262 eyes of 247 patients who underwent pars plana vitrectomy with silicone oil injection from the years of 1992-1996. In all cases glaucoma was caused by trabecular meshwork obstruction due to silicone oil emulsification. The prevalence of the postoperative glaucoma has been found 14.8% and more frequent for recurrent (41.0%) and-posttraumatic (30.7%) retinal detachment with fibrous proliferative vitreoretinopathy. Glaucoma after pars plana vitrectomy and intravitreal silicone oil injection for complicated retinal detachments is a frequent complication mostly when surgery needs lensectomy and endophotocoagulation.
